We are in the final countdown, folks. And it’s around this time when I’ve just about crossed off all the things on my list (ok, nowhere near, but perhaps I’ve just surrendered at this point), and I try to take some time to soak up the hustle and bustle a bit without being part of it per se. Andrew and I have created a little tradition of bopping around our neighboring town or Warren, Rhode Island for a cocktail (or two) and a good meal while stopping in to pick up any last minute odds and ends. It seems that people who haven’t discovered this special little state don’t quite understand why people love it so - that is, until they visit. Then they just can’t deny the magic. Granted, we’ve been taking him to Vermont since he was a wee 4 week old so I suppose he’s a bit seasoned, but this was the first time we hopped on a plane and put our parenting to a real test. It was the first time I truly had the “is this worth it??” moment. And it was. It really was. Here’s how we tackled everything to make it not only seamless, but really really fun.

I know, that's a big statement, but there is truly no other place that makes me feel the way Nantucket makes me feel. The moment I round Brant Point, I always feel so incredibly grateful. And I suppose I'm thankful to this magical island for giving me that gift. The gift of being truly present. Of appreciating every cobblestone, every sunset, every single shingle. On Nantucket, my brain is there and nowhere else - and that's something I always pay attention to.
