Decking the Halls of My Nantucket Dream Home
You know how Oprah always tells you to put things out into the universe so they are attracted back to you? Well universe, I want this house on Nantucket. That doesn't seem to be asking too much, now does it? As I've mentioned before, I love real estate. And dreamy real estate over looking the Atlantic Ocean in my favorite little town of 'Sconset on the sweetest island (that just so happens to be outfitted by all things Nantucket Looms) might be as good as it gets if you ask me. Well, I got to decorate it for Christmas during a shoot for the fabulous ladies at Nantucket Looms (they are my fav) and call it my job, and I thought I would share it with you. Welcome to my (dream) home.
What you don't see in the photos of this dreamy white living room are the sweeping ocean views literally everywhere you look. No big deal. I'm just going to sit on this gorgeous white couch watching the whales breach (which they said happens btw). NBD.
You know what I love more than I should because I'm not that normal? Separate sitting areas in a room. This room was like two living rooms in one. It's like, do you want to sit on the couch and look at the ocean, or do you want to sit on these cozy chairs in front of the fire and look at the ocean. The choice is all yours.
Below we are drinking red wine and pretending to cocktail party for the shot, but in real life I was just BEYOND terrified to spill any of that red wine on those gorgeous couches. I'm a huge clutz, and I'm still patting myself on the back for making it through the entire day without a single spill. I take wins where I can.
So what I loved about this house (other than the fact that it basically had the most ridiculous view ever) is that even though it was an insanely perfect pad, it also felt like home. The spaces weren't too huge, and everything felt warm and inviting. The kitchen was not one of those super intimidating ones, but a place where I could actually see myself cooking. I like that.
You want to know another thing I love more than it's appropriate? Shingles on homes. So basically Nantucket is heaven to me (and coastal New England in general). I want to shoot everything in front of them. Thankfully Erin is always there to control my crazy ways (but she did humor me a bit).
So there you have it! A little look into this gorgeous Nantucket home all decked for the holidays. The picture below is my decking the door of the guest house, which I am moving into next summer (right Oprah??).
